Chinese Aged Care Melbourne

Chinese Aged Care in Melbourne 中文养老服务

Aged care that respects Chinese cultural values, language preferences and family expectations. My Evervale provides Mandarin and Cantonese-speaking carers across Box Hill, Glen Waverley, Doncaster, Templestowe and the rest of Melbourne’s Chinese-Australian community.

Why language and culture matter in aged care

For older Chinese-Australians, especially those with cognitive decline, English often becomes a second language again. Carers who speak Mandarin or Cantonese aren’t a nice-to-have — they are the difference between care that works and care that creates distress.

Cultural understanding goes further than language: the role of family in decision-making, the importance of food, traditional medicine, festival observance, and respecting filial piety all shape how care is delivered.

What we provide

  • Mandarin and Cantonese-speaking carers for in-home, residential and respite care
  • Bilingual care management — written care plans, family meetings and consent in Chinese
  • Culturally appropriate meals — congee, dim sum, stir-fries, soups; rice with most meals; tea provided throughout the day
  • Festival recognition — Lunar New Year, Mid-Autumn Festival, Qingming, Dragon Boat Festival celebrated meaningfully
  • TCM-aware care — we coordinate with traditional Chinese medicine practitioners alongside Western clinical care
  • Family-centred decision making — we work with the whole family, not just the resident

  • Glen Waverley — strong Chinese family network and schools
  • Doncaster & Doncaster East

Working with Chinese family structures

In many Chinese families, adult children — especially the eldest son or daughter-in-law — carry the weight of caring for ageing parents. We support that role rather than replace it. Our care planning starts with what the family is already doing and fills the gaps.

For families where children have moved interstate or overseas, we provide a regular WeChat or email update on parents’ care, photos and any clinical changes — so distance doesn’t mean disconnection.

Coordinating with Chinese-Australian doctors and pharmacies

We work with the bilingual GP clinics, pharmacies and allied health practitioners across Box Hill, Doncaster and Glen Waverley. If your parent’s doctor is Chinese-speaking, we coordinate care in their preferred language.

Funded under Aged Care Act 2024

Multicultural and language-appropriate care is a right under the strengthened Aged Care Quality Standards. Our Mandarin and Cantonese services are delivered through standard government-funded packages there is no extra cost for a bilingual carer.
